More about
Active Ingredients: What is Hydroquinone? Hydroquinone is considered the primary topical ingredient for inhibiting melanin production. Its components have potent antioxidant abilities.
Hydroquinone
is a strong inhibitor of melanin production, meaning
that it prevents skin from making the substance responsible for skin
color. It disrupts the synthesis and production of melanin
hyperpigmentation. Topical hydroquinone
is considered by many dermatologists to be a safer, similarly effective
(if not more so), and less expensive option than lasers or deep peel
treatments
Melasma is a general term describing darkening of the skin.
Chloasma is generally used to describe skin discolorations caused by
hormones. These hormonal changes are usually the result of pregnancy,
birth control pills or estrogen replacement therapy.
Solar lentigenes is the technical term for darkened spots on the
skin caused by the sun. Solar refers to sunlight and lentigene describes
a darkened area of skin. These spots are quite common in adults with a
long history of unprotected sun exposure.
Aside from sun exposure and hormones, hyperpigmentation can be caused
by skin damage, such as remnants of blemishes, wounds or rashes. This is especially true for those with darker skin tones.
The most typical cause of darkened areas of skin, brown spots or
areas of discoloration is unprotected sun exposure. Once incorrectly
referred to as liver spots, these pigment problems are not connected with the liver.
What is Kojic Acid? Kojic Acid is a by-product in the
fermentation process of malting rice. Since the enzyme Tyrosinase contains
copper, Kojic Acid is able to effectively chelate (remove) the copper by
lowering the PH level around Tyrosinase. Once the copper cofactor is removed,
Tyrosinase activity is suppressed and hence so is melanin production. Since
being discovered by the Japanese in the early 1990s, Kojic Acid has become one
of the most favored agents to help combat hyper pigmentation. What is Glycolic Acid?
- Glycolic acid is one of the naturally
occurring fruit acids derived from sugar cane.
- Rejuvenates skin by encouraging the
shedding of old, sun-damaged surface skin cells.
- Stimulates new growth of skin and
collagen by decreasing the bond that holds dead skin cells on the surface.
This allows dead cells to be removed gradually, leaving behind a layer of
soft and smooth and skin.
- Fine lines, brown spots and dry spots
(solar keratoses) can improve with regular applications.
- May also prove helpful for those prone
to acne.
What is Titanium Dioxide: Top grade sunscreen for broad spectrum UV protection
What is Watermelon Extract: Protects skin cells
(keratinocytes & fibroblasts) against daily stress induced by UV light
& free radicals, reduces the break-down of DNA in human skin cells. In vivo
tests on humans have shown that watermelon extract protects the DNA up to 25%. Reduces
erythema after UV irradiation.
What is Oxybenzone: Potent UVA &
UVB absorber (primarily UVB but also UVA), protects from sun-induced skin aging
(UVA), enhances UVB protection of other sunscreens (e.g. homosalate, octyl
salicylate, OM-cinnamate, octinoxate), protects polymers & organic
substances in cosmetic products, stabilizes complex formulations & color
cosmetics. |
